Implementation of the sustainability plan is the responsibility of the senior management team consisting of the CEO’s of Koster Keunen US, Koster Keunen NL and Koster Keunen West Africa. In periodical meetings progress of the activities will be monitored and evaluated.
Every year an activity plan for the following year will be developed. An annual Corporate Sustainability Report will communicate results and progress. Essential for the successful integration of sustainability in the business activities is the engagement of stakeholders, especially internal stakeholders such as shareholders, board members and staff. Staff is involved through execution of the activities.

Sustainable and organic products create a more engaged relationship with value chain partners. Koster Keunen will in the coming years increase the number and volume of sustainable and organic products. Promoting modern beekeeping and female participation is part of this goal.

Preserving our Earth, Bees, and Biodiversity with Sustainably Sourced Beeswax.
The act of bee pollination is a key factor that keeps flora and fauna in balance. Healthy trees and plants prevent climate change, desertification, and soil erosion. Sustainable beekeeping helps with preserving and supporting a biodiverse ecosystem.
In early 2019, Koster Keunen opened a new West African facility in Lomé, Togo, which is dedicated to our sustainable beeswax initiative. Our Sustainable Beeswax supply chain in West Africa is a long-term commitment with cooperative and beekeeper groups. We are structuring, training, and improving the good practices of beekeepers in multiple nations. The results of this work can be seen in the quality of wax produced, the recurrent income at the local level, and the professionalization of the local beekeeping society.
Our team located in West Africa includes an expert staff who are involved and present in the field and with the beekeepers. We proudly fund safety programs and support coalitions, donating specialized equipment to beekeepers.

Our corporate sustainability program positively impacts individual facets of the supply chain down to the communities where we source our raw materials. There are tangible social, economic and environmental effects taking place due to this program.
We take great pride in our responsible production practices throughout our value chain. Koster Keunen continuously acts to reduce our ecological footprint and impact on the earth. We use very little water during production, and when we do, it is recycled. We have also installed solar panels to each of our manufacturing facilities to reduce our carbon footprint.
